Tips for Building your Body

Step one- find a gym in your area with a good atmosphere, a place you can actually travel to and isn't filled with steroid junkies. If you haven't been to 24 Hour Fitness, I would recommend them. They have simple agreements and they are usually have the best deal. They offer month to month memberships and pre-paids. If your anything like me you'll get the pre-paid to ensure you get in there and get your money's worth. They always require a bigger down payment, but are 50% cheaper over a two to three year period. Most likely in all the facilities you visit they will offer personal training. If you have the funds I would highly recommend training 3 times a week with a professional trainer (not your buddy that lifts and looks pretty good). For most people, this is far too expensive, so I would advise 3 to 4 sessions. In 3 to 4 sessions you should be able to get a complete full-body work-out plan. Use this plan until you plateau (stop getting results) and then buy another 3 to 4. By the time you get to your second purchase of training, you'll be ready to start buying up some supplements and should be feeling a great deal better. If you can't afford training at all, send me your body wish list and I'll get you started.

Working out will change your life in more ways than you can imagine. You meet new people, you enter a new lifestyle, your confidence improves, you start feeling better, you have more energy and will be looking your best! If you're really scrapping for money the Marine Corps is always hiring and I guarantee you results from their program. You can expect a few more Marine Corps pitches as you read through the site, A lot of text has been writen by, myself, a former Marine.

Step two- start slow, you need to build your tendons before hitting the big weights. Start with light weight and high repetitions. This is also a good time to ensure you are practicing good form.

Step three- when exercising, ensure that you are practicing good core strength. This means your body is in line, your stomach is clentched/flat, your head is up and facing forward. This will help you isolate the muscle group you are focusing on and reduce the risk of injury.

Step four- aquire a good routine from a professional. This will be your road map to getting results. You can't just jump from machine to machine and hope to get a favorable result. There needs to be some structure.

Step five- make sure your getting some food directly after your workout and don't forget to stretch (this is important to do before you start as well).

Step six- track your results. This is important for a number of reasons;

    1) to see the weight increases you've made
    2) to track your plateaus
    3) to cycle your routine. You can't aways strive for max weight; you must cycle between peak weight and peak endurance. Low weight, high rep. exercises build strong tendons and endurance. Heavy weight, low reps. build muscle and strength.
    4) this will allow a trainer the ability to see what steps are needed to get you to the next level.
    5) It will also be a constant reminder of the progess you've made thus far.
    The picture above is a real world example of quick progress. The picture on the left is me in late 2003. The picture on the right was taken in early 2005. Two years can change your body dramatically with minimal time dedication. My results were achieved by going to the gym 3 to 4 days a week (mostly 3) and working out for about an hour. Not only are you improving your fitness, you are able to take advantage of great social situations. Girls are all around you, sitting right next to you. No approach necessary, just turn your head and say something. Example if she's wearing air Nike's or bright shoes say, "Now tell me... do those shoes actually make you run faster? (use good body language and tone) Get her to laugh and you will have a long time to work on the relationship, hence you workout at the same time.
